Spring Plant and Mushroom Walk with Bo and Mike - Sunday, April 6th
As we dream of warmer days and the glorious greening of the coming warmer seasons, it’s the perfect time to announce we’ll be hosting another springtime guided hike with our friend, plant and foraging educator Bo Brown!
Bo is the author of two excellent regional foraging guides - Foraging the Ozarks and Foraging Central Grasslands - and is an authority on the plants of our region, drawing on decades of field experience. Mike is a myco-educator who has been studying and foraging mushrooms for over a decade and loves nothing more than to share what he has learned with anyone who will listen. This is an opportunity to participate in a unique and extremely informational experience and we’re proud to offer it to our communities.
We’ll be meeting up right here on our homestead, just south of Edgar Springs, MO, on Sunday, April 6th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. We’ll walk our property together while Bo identifies any plants of interest we encounter and tells us how to know them and how to use them in our kitchen. We’ll see many spring ephemerals along with lots of delicious early-sprouting weeds to learn about. Mike will be on the lookout for spring mushrooms and going over their identifying features, their ecological roles, and how to collaborate with them to improve your life. Much of the focus will be on morels and how to figure out when, where and how to look for them. You will see first-hand what prime morel habitat looks like and we might even get lucky and see a few early ones! This will be a perfect chance to enjoy some time in the woods with two experienced educators who are passionate about sharing their knowledge about our plant and fungal allies.
Please note, this is an educational opportunity, NOT a foraging outing where you will be filling your basket! Like all of our offerings, we try to maintain a fairly intimate setting so the number of participants will be very limited. If you want to join us don’t hesitate - the first walk with Bo we offered this spring sold out quickly! Tickets are for one person and are non-refundable. We will have the event rain or shine, but if severe weather is expected we’ll reschedule.
